The distinguished speakers from academia were Dr. Bharathi S, Professor, Dr.Ambedkar Institute of Technology and Dr. Ashwini K B, Associate Professor R.V College of Engineering, Bangalore. The topics covered were latest developments in research methodologies, effective research writing, review process and journal article writing, and publication practices.
National Level Faculty Development Program on "Data Science with Python“

Summary: The Department of Computer Applications-MCA and Research Cell (Anveshana) under the aegis of IQAC, Dayananda Sagar College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized a Three days Research Boot Camp for MCA students during 19th to 21st May 2022 to build research competency in them. Dr. Suma V, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Design, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore served as the resource person for the boot camp. The topics covered were Introduction to research and Research Methodology, Research Paper writing and Publication, Patenting and Intellectual Property rights. The research boot camp was successful in making the students understand the research process extensively and thus facilitate to produce higher-quality research papers.

Summary: Department of Computer Applications - MCA under COE – Big Data, have organized a Technical Talk on “Business Analyst and their Roles“ by Mr. Sayar Mitra. Mr.Sayar Mitra is a Consultant in CapGemini and is also an Alumnus of the department. He started the seminar by explaining the responsibilities of a business analyst. He explained the students the skills required for becoming a business analyst. He threw some light on career opportunities available in this field. Over all the entire session was a very fruitful one.

Summary: MCA Department in Association with Centre for Innovation and Leadership (CIL) conducted Two days training on “Communication Skills” for the 1st Sem MCA Students on 23 rd and 24th March 2022 between 9.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Day-1 session was handled by Ms.Archana and she conducted many activities to emphasize the importance of communication skills, dressing sense, body language etc., The students enjoyed the activities and were very happy to have improved their communication skills. Day-2 was handled by Ms.Jeevitha. The session was more on presentation skills. Each student was given few words and they had to form a story and narrate it. This exercise was enjoyed by the students and overall the students were very happy with Two day CIL sessions and gave excellent reviews. It was fun learning for all of them

Summary: Department of MCA conducted a session on “Essential Employability Communication Skills” by Skill Development Specialist Mr. Krishna Kupapachi for MCA 2021 batch as part of Induction program on Day-5. Mr. Krishna covered essential topics of how to face interview in offline and online mode, technical skills required for computer science students, soft skills required and personality traits essential to face corporate world. Mr. Krishna explained dos and don’ts of facing an interview, HR and technical interview both aspects he covered in detail. He emphasized on practices like punctuality, creativity, functionalities etc to crack the interviews. Pre-Interview and Post-interview skills were also emphasized upon. There was a question and answer session at the end of the session. Mr. Krishna patiently answered all the queries.

He started the session by introduction of IoT and how IoT is relevant in today’s world. He thereby spoke about benefits and drawbacks of IOT. He explained about Industry 5.0 and the new revolution in the IT industry. He also threw light benefits and drawbacks of Industry 5.0. Challenges and opportunities in the industry 5.0 were also discussed upon. He also appraised the students regarding the career opportunities in IOT.

Summary: As a part of Induction Program for MCA 2021 batch on the Day-3 Prof. Shivamma from Dayananda Sagar University held a session for the MCA students on the topic titled ”Data analysis using R in healthcare”.
Prof.Shivamma gave introduction to Data analysis and explained the difference between data and health care data. Benefits of R programming and how R can be used for data analysis was explained. Statistical skills required for R were explained. A demo of R studio was given. Also what are the roles and responsibilities of Healthcare analyst and requires skills for one to become an analyst were told. Career opportunities in Healthcare Data analysis were pondered upon. Question and answer session was held at the end of the session.

Mr. Abhinandan gave an introduction about Devops & Cloud AWS and explained about DevOps how it enables formerly—development, IT operations, quality engineering and security—to coordinate and collaborate to produce better, more reliable products. By adopting a DevOps culture along with DevOps practices and tools, teams gain the ability to better respond to customer needs, increase confidence in the applications they build and achieve business goals faster. Summary: Department of Computer Applications – MCA in association with Oracle Volunteering organized a webinar on cryptography on 22nd Dec 2021. The speakers Mr. Arun Gupta, Senior IT Manager, Oracle Applications Labs with his team began the webinar by introducing Encryption Key Terms and concentrated on further more important topics such as Pillars of Cryptography and the General Logic behind Cryptography - Kerchoff's Principle. The Resource Persons then collaborated on Type of Cryptography - Symmetric/Asymmetric, Ciphers for Symmetric /Asymmetric Cryptography. Students were encouraged to explore new areas related to the issue. Finally, presenters emphasized the basic demos of cyber forensics.

This was an initiation of the Department of Computer applications to help the young minds to get an idea and to know their knowledge levels in attending the MCA Entrance exam. Mrs. Ranjini K S, Asst Prof, DSCASC started the session by explaining importance of mathematics and how to crack Mathematics topics in PGCET using shortcuts methods. Time management tricks to solve the problems are explained. Second session was handled by Speaker Mrs. Niveditha K S, Asst Prof, DSCASC. She covered important areas in Computer Science by solving examples on each topic. Students of various colleges attended the session with great enthusiasm. In view of helping students in PGCET – MCA Entrance Examination, department has taken initiative to conduct Webinar on the important topics. The main aim of the webinar is to crack the PGCET Entrance exam with more marks. The speaker Mrs. Sunitha, Asst Prof, DSCASC took a deep dive in the area of Analytical Ability, Importance of Aptitude, Logical Reasoning and Computer Awareness.
The speaker started the session with the tips and tricks to follow during the examination. She covered the main areas to concentrate by solving examples on each topic. The speaker emphasized the importance of the above in everybody’s life and why one needs these above factors for a healthy and successful life. Each aspect of the flames was explained and discussed with students. Also, how to master the above 6 dimensions of the life was discussed.

The speaker Mr. Deepak Agarwal started the session with Introduction of DevSecops and the need of it along with the difference between DevOps and DevSecops and how it involves injecting security practices into an organization’s DevOps pipeline. He continued the session with the main goal of DevSecops and how to incorporate security into all stages of the software development workflow. The speaker concluded the session with latest DevSecops tools in which security is adapted into all stages of software.

He specifically questioned their soft skills preparation and tried to find out their requirements in soft skills. Also, he explained how the candidates are hired. Usage of Artificial Intelligence to pick the resumes was also highlighted. Finally, he explained how one should have LinkedIn Profile to gain more exposure to potential employers.

Workshop on “Call for Code Day”

Summary: MCA department, DSCASC was organized hands-on workshop on 7th of April 2021. This workshop was led by Mr. Yuktesh Chintamadaka, IBM.
This workshop was all about the upcoming competition called “Call for Code” initiated by IBM. This year the theme is on Climate Change. Climate change has been one of the dangerous consequences now a days, due to this we as humans should start taking initiative to make our Earth a better place. Keeping this unique idea, they are calling out for the participants who can exhibit their idea through technology which can help in betterment of Earth’s climate. Followed by this introduction session, Students had hands-on activity related to IBM cloud platform and how to develop applications using Watson IoT platform. Students were shown a gist of how we could create applications using Node-RED, related to climate change without using any much coding. Students have learnt about IBM cloud platform and Watson IoT platform.

Summary: As part of Pre-placement training and career guidance a webinar was organized by MCA Department on “How to prepare for IAS while in college“ by CIL in association with CIvilsDaily IAS. Speaker from CivisDaily explained the process of IAS exams and how to prepare for the same. Impact and importance of IAS officers was explained in detail. Also few questions of previous years IAS exams were discussed. Various IAS toppers profiles were discussed and explained on how they cracked the exam and became the top IAS rankers.
Workshop on “Job Readiness”

Summary: Department of MCA in association with CIL have organized a weeklong workshop on “Job Readiness“ in association with GTT for the MCA 5th Sem and 3rd Sem MCA students of DSCASC. The program was conducted from 27th January to 2nd February 2021 form 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m by Mr. Shayantan from GTT. The workshop was a 24 hrs. Training program specifically aimed at training the students in interview skills, soft skills, resume building etc. Many aspects like body language, communication skills, technical skills, LinkedIn profiles were explained and discussed in detail.

Online Workshop on “Image Processing Using Matlab”

Summary: A Workshop on MATLAB was organized by MCA Department for the benefit of the Students. MATLAB (matrix laboratory) is a fourth-generation high-level programming language and interactive environment for numerical computation, visualization and programming.
MATLAB is an interactive system whose basic data element is an array that does not require dimensioning. This allows you to solve many technical computing problems, especially those with matrix and vector formulations.
The speaker gave demo on how to convert grey scale image to RGB and vice versa. He explained the impact of noise in real world images and how to remove noise using various filters. Also he gave demo on edge detection for the image.

Summary: Research Cell, Department of the computer applications, MCA organized an Online Workshop on the topic ‘Academic Writing’ on 21st December 2020.
The resource person of the workshop, Dr.Suchira Nair started the session with an introduction to the importance of academic papers or research papers ina student’s career. She detailed about the preparations required before starting a paper, defining the problem statement and framing an outline, structure and writing style to be followed in academic writing. This was followed by a discussion about citation, reference, plagiarism and review of the paper.

She explained how to build a start-up, the role of an incubator and the challenges for campus entrepreneurs. The speaker also gave information about the government’s support in form of funds and grants for Incubation and Innovation cells in academic institutions. IBM Series 6 Workshop on “Machine Learning Using Python – Decision Tree and Random Forest Classification”

Summary: IBM has conducted this workshop to enlighten the students on how to use python for Machine learning. This was the sixth session of the workshop from the series of a total number of six sessions of the workshop named “Machine Learning with Python”. The session started with explanation of Decision tree, a type of model used for both classification and regression. A random forest is simply a collection of decision trees whose results are aggregated into one final result. Their ability to limit over fitting without substantially increasing error due to bias is why they are such powerful models. One way Random Forests reduce variances by training on different samples of the data. Later the speaker gave idea about how to do projects in machine learning and sources to get projects.

ISR CLUB- “Old Age Home Visit” on 26th Mar 2022

Department of Computer Applications- MCA in association with ISR Cell organized an "Old Age Home Visit" on 26th March 2022. Department of MCA organized and motivated students to create awareness about the neighborhood, to sensitize students towards social work and problems of aged people. The department visited "Prashanthi Old Age Home" at Mico Layout, Hongasandra, and Bengaluru by 10 A.M on 26th March, Saturday. Students and Faculty happily volunteered and donated the amount for the trust to help the aged people. The young enthusiasts cheered and greeted with a big smile and spent some valuable time with the aged people. They distributed fruits, biscuits and medicines according to their needs. Students also had some conservation with gentleman towards politics. It was an overwhelming experience and quite difficult to digest the reality that all were witnessed the elderly parents who were staying in Homes. It is an opportunity to discover Empathy among ourselves.

A farewell party was Organized for MCA students on 13th November 2020 for the outgoing batch of class 2020 due to unprecedented times brought about by an invisible enemy COVID-19, staff and students arranged a farewell party for our seniors through this online platform no stone was left unturned to make this experience one kind of experience for our seniors the online farewell party 2020 was not any less than the regular farewell party. The Event concluded by all the students and teachers remembering those memories with the students and some amazing time they spent with this outgoing batch. Bidding them Farewell was emotional for everyone but also we were happy for their new beginnings.
