Dr. Sheril Michael Almeida discloses the "Philosophy of Management and Commerce Research". Mam elaborated the philosophy of research through the “Research Onion” diagram. Scope of social science research and how to promote research work at colleges and universities were focus points.

An FDP titled “Academic Integrity and Role of IPR in Effective Implementation of NEP” was organized by BBA & B.Com department on 20th November 2021 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at New Business Block. It was aimed to provide basic information about NEP 2020 with reference to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

The speaker highlighted the basic structure of NEP and also focused on how IPR will play an important role in the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of a faculty. It was also emphasized that faculty’s intellectual credits will be uploaded on NEP platform in future. Academic Bank of Credit was also explained in detail.

The E-Symposium began with a Welcome Address by Prof. Murugesha B N, HOD B. Com, DSCASC, followed by Inaugural Address by our beloved Principal, Dr Nagaraj Shenoy. The event was coordinated by Prof. Rashmi Akshay Yadav, Department B. Com/BBA. There was 192 participants included faculties and students from various institutions across India.

The Speaker enlightened the crowd to deal with the pandemic with positive note troughing light on the educational sector.  He has put forth lots of online and offline mode of imparity training technology.

The Speaker for Session 2 was Dr. SK Hafizul Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Information Technology, India. The Speaker threw light on the opportunity gained by the predators of law, who used this Covid Situation for the Phishing; malware ran somewhere and looting the innocent crowd with crores of money.  Sir gave the statistical evidence supporting the increase of cyber-crime during the covid 19 pandemic. 

The Speaker for Session 3 was Dr. Mausumi Goswami, Associate Professor, Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology, Christ (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, India. The speaker justified her topic Multicultural competence as a requirement of Digital era and Global Business by her graceful presentation filled with lots of examples from various parts of the world.  She has put forth her views about dealing with the multicultural differences. 

The Speaker for Session 4 was Dr. Soumi Dutta, Associate Professor and Assistant HOD of Department of Computer Application, Institute of Engineering & Management, India. Speaker addressed issues related to role of healthcare in new normal.  She gave inputs on online-medical learning environment and its benefits.  She highlighted her predictions on reduction of future wave of Covid 19 disease intensity.  In her session she also stressed upon the role of data mining and machine learning techniques in detecting and diagnosing the novel corona virus.  All through her presentation many models and research works were elaborately discussed.

International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility for Sustainability was conducted by the Department of Commerce and Management – B. Com/BBA – UG (BU) for 2 days on 11th& 12th December 2020 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM on the zoom platform. The International Conference is evident with publication of 51 papers in the ISBN book . Out of the 51 papers received for the conference, 31 papers were from Authors across India and 20 papers were from International Authors. 11 papers were reviewed and published by UGC Care Journal in the December 2020 edition with ISSN No.: 1750-4554. Total 6 papers were reviewed and published in Scopus Q3 - Journal in the December 2020 edition, with ISSN No.: 1303-9709.

Essay Writing Competition Conducted by RBI

Students of BBA & B.Com dept. got an opportunity to take part in the Essay writing Competition on the topic “DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE OF INDIA : OPPORTUNITY OR THREAT ?” at Regional Level on 25th January,2016. The event was conducted by the Reserve Bank of India under the title of RBI POLICY CHALLENGE – A NATIONAL LEVEL COMPETITION. 5 teams consisting 3 or 4 students submitted essay on the given title. The scripts were evaluated by the subject experts. Finally one essay was sent to the RBI. The team consists Ms. Niveditha P, Mr. Suchindra G S, Mr. Dhanush Rahul and Mr. Ganapathy from VI semester BBA & B.Com.

ELOCUTION COMPETITION

As a part of “National Youth Day” to commemorate the 153rd Birth Anniversary of our great scholar Swami Vivekananda, ELOCUTION COMPETITION was conducted on 21st January,2016 from 2.30 pm to 3.30pm in the classroom . The event was judged by Prof. Suplab KantiPodder and Dr. Abdul Razak. The event was headed by the Literary Committee.

FIRST INTERNAL TEST

As a part of Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation, 1st Internal Test was conducted from 8th February,2016 to 11th February,2016. It was conducted in two sessions like THE FIRST SESSION (8.45 AM -9.45 AM) & SECOND SESSION (1.30 PM – 2.30 PM). The regular classes were resumed as per time-table.

EC&CC Activity : 1 (for 2nd Semester BBA & B.Com Students)

As a part of Bangalore University Curriculum, the Extra Curricular and Co-curricular activity was planned by the Literary Committee. In this series, the 1st activity titled ESSAY WRITING was conducted for the 2nd Semester BBA & B.Com Students on 18th February,2016 from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm. The topic for the essay was ‘CAN DO ATTITUDE’ PROVIDES A PLATFORM FOR FIGHT-FLIGHT RESPONSE HABIT FOR MARKETING MANAGERS. It was a compulsory event. The respective Class-counselors extended their support to conduct the event successfully.

APOGEE – 2014

The leadership event for the BBA/B.Com students was organized on 20th -21st February, 2014 at Dr. D Premchandra Sagar Auditorium. The tag line for the event was “Innovative Leaders”. The event was resumed with the inauguration where Dr. D PremchandraSagar, the Vice Chairman and CEO -DSI, awarded the HR Excellence Award 2014 to Mr. Elango R.

The Executive Vice-President, Emerging Geography SBU and Global Chief Human Resources at Emphasis and the Business Leadership Award 2014 was bestowed to Mr. Venu Madhav, Director – Café Coffee Day.

The inaugural ceremony was witnessed by Sri Galiswamy, the Secretary-DSI, Dr. Gopal Reddy, the Principal DSCASC, Dr. Sridharan, the Director – DSJBS, Prof. Krishnegowda, the Director- Biotech department and Prof. Manjunath – the Director –

Five teams named Christ College, New Horizon College, SRN Adarsh College, SSMRV College, and M S Ramaiah College took part in the Apogee-2014. The event resumed with a Written Test in the 1st Round where teams were given a case study. The 2nd Round was Mad adds where all the five teams performed . The 3rd Round was titled “Extempore” where participants presented their views on various topics. The second day of the event began with the 3rd Round i.e. Case Study where only one member of each team took part . It was followed by the 4th Round, Business Quiz where all the four teams consisting of two members participated and it was anchored by Prof. Shivakumar, the Director – CIL. The Final Round – 5 i.e. Stress Interview was very intensive where only one member of each team took part and experienced it.

The valedictory of Apogee 2014 resumed at 3.30 pm with the announcement of Apgee2014 winner.Apogee-2014 trophy was bagged by the team of New Horizon College, Bangalore and One Student of M S Ramaiah College got an opportunity to visit Malaysia. On this auspicious occasion, Dr. Harikrishana Maram, Chairman , Bangalore Management Association (BBA ) & Founder CEO–Imperial Group was felicitated . The valedictory was graced by the presence of Sri Galiswamy, the Secretary, DSI, Prof. B.Thyagaraja, VP,HR&OD- DSI, Dr. S Sridharan, Director-DSJBS & Dr. L Manjunatha Rao, Director-DSSIT.

After the prize distribution in various categories, Cultural Competition titled “Saga 2014” resumed where teams from Maharani College, Ramaiah College, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, DSJBS took part in a Fashion Show, Western Dance , Duet Dance , Bollywood Dance. DSJBS team won the first place in the Fashion Show event and the second place was bagged by Ramaiah College. Bollywood Dance event was won by DSJBS team whereas Dayananda Sagar Engineering College got second place in this category.

During industrial visit students will learn about the corporate culture, manufacturing process, plant layout etc.  which will help them to understand the subjects like Production Operation Management in a better manner. In this series, students of IV semester BBA A/B/C got an opportunity to visit Coca – Cola Bottling plant at Bidadi Industrial Area, Bangalore on 13th & 26th February,2014. Prof. Murughesh B N coordinated the visit.

During the visit they were escorted by the team of professionals to the training unit of Coke where they were briefed about the origin of Coke and also the process of manufacturing of various products of Coke.  There are six product manufacturing lines which are active as of now and they manufacture products like Coca-Cola, Sprite, Kinley Mineral Water etc.  After briefing Students were taken into plant tour where the manufacturing process starting from raw material procurement till the end product was shown and explained by Ms. Shobha, the tour guide.

  • Jain University Management Fest
    • 2nd semester B.Com & BBA students took part in the Management Fest organized by the Jain University, Bangalore from 6th -7th February, 2014. Our students took part in various events like Photography, Treasure Hunt, Singing, Business Quiz and Personality & 20 Questions.
  • Christ University Management Fest
    • 9 students from 2nd semester B.Com took part in the Group Dance event conducted by Christ University on 21st -22nd February,2014.
  • ASC Degree College Fest
    • 7 students from 4th semester B.Com exhibited their talent by participating in the events like Group Dance and Photography in the management fest conducted by ASC Degree College, Bangalore on 3rd March,2014.
  • CMS Jain University , Management Fest
    • 8 students took part in the event Treasure Hunt in the management fest conducted by the CMS, Jain University, Bangalore on 4th March,2014.
  • Seshadripuram First Grade College
    • 6 students from 2nd sem / 4th sem BBA /B.Com took part in the Group Dance as a part of the management fest conducted by Seshadripuram First Grade College, Bangalore on 8th March,2014.

    • 7 students from 2nd Sem B.Com students took part in the Group Dance as a part of the management fest conducted by New Horizon College of Management, Bangalore on 7th  April,2014.
  • Awareness about Voting rights
    • 4th / 6th semester BBA / B.Com students attended a programme on voting system conducted by T.R.Niranjan, IAS, Special Election Commissioner, Bangalore and Prof. Obiah, Joint Director in the gracious presence of the Secretary, Sri Galiswamy and the Director, DSJBS
    • On 7th April,2014 from 12.30 pm to 12.45 pm. students took oath to cast their valuable vote without any bias and with full interest.
  • Sports Activities
    • Inter-class Cricket tournament was organized by the 6th semester B.Com students where 13 teams took part on 6th February,2014. The 2nd Sem B.Com team won the winner’s place and 6th Sem B.Com team was the Runner-up team.
  • Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament
    • DSJBS students  took part in the  Inter-collage cricket tournament organised by Shushruti Institute of Management Studies on 12th April,2014.  18 teams, both from UG and PG, participated in the tournament where BBA students’ team  emerged as RUNNER UP in the tournament

SKILL DEVELOPMENT / CAREER ORIENTED TRAINING

A) DSJBS Business Lab Activity - Career-Orientation and Training

This programme was offered by National Skill Development Corporation, Sector Skill Council and TeamLease IIJT, Jayanagar, Bangalore at Dayananda Sagar Junior Business School (DSJBS) during February – March 2014 for 4th Semester & 6th Semester students of BCom & BBA. More than 300 students enrolled themselves in various courses like BFSI-Business Correspondent/Facilitator(BCBF), RETAIL-Store Trainee Associate, IT-Customer Relationship Management(CRM) to acquire domain / job skills. The first batch of 44 students who took the NSDC Assessment passed the exam successfully. The remaining students are still yet to take the assessment.

B) DSI – Centre for Innovation & Learning (CIL) Training Sessions

II semester BBA ‘A’ & ‘B’ section students attended CIL training sessions on “Communication Skills” on 27th & 28th January,2014. The session was focused on importance of communication skills and the various aspects of personality like attire, dressing style , body language on various occasions, behavior, formal & informal communication. Students were given many activities and they participated in group discussions, self-introduction and introduction of others. The session was followed by question and answer session.

Local Inspection Committee Visit

The Local Inspection Committee (LIC) from Bangalore University visited the college and inspected the various documents on 1st February,2014 from 11.00 am – 2.00 pm. The committee also visited DSJBS and interacted with the faculty members.

Live-Project Orientation for IV sem. B.Com Students

Live-Project Orientation was conducted for the students of IV semester B.Com On 3rd February 2014 at 10.15 am in the classrooms by Prof. Rekha.S.B  & Prof. Swathi. S. Procedures and formats of Live Project were introduced.  The schedule and the guidelines were given to complete the Live Projects within the scheduled time.Prof. R. Antony, HOD-B.Com also addressed the students and motivated them to take up the live projects.

Seminar on Entrepreneurship

DSJBS conducted a seminar on ‘Entrepreneurship’ on 6th March, 2014   for the VI semester  BBA students at C.D.Sagar Auditorium from  11.00 am to 1.00 pm. Mr. Chakradhari Rowe, Edupreneur Coach, GenY Awakening India was invited to address the students on the topic ‘Entrepreneurship’.

The seminar resumed with the explanation about recession cycle that started in 1929 which affected West. It also glanced on the People’s economy and comparison with China’s economy. The seminar also reflected the statistics of MBA unemployment. The speaker mentioned the causes of downfall of Indian Economy. Later, the seminar was focused on its major theme ‘entrepreneurship, its importance, opportunities and how to achieve success. On the whole, the seminar was informative, motivational and interactive.

Student - Parent - Teacher Meetings at DSJBS

Objectives

  • To foster and promote cordial relationship among the parents, teachers and students of the college/department.
  • To render 'all possible assistance for smooth working of the college and for maintaining good discipline among students  in the campus.

Student -Parent-Teacher Meeting is a formal discussion and that is intended to facilitate parental participation and involvement in College Developmental Initiatives. The goal of all student parent-teacher groups is to provide support to their college, encourage parent involvement, support teachers to make a student performance superior, better than ever before. Student – Parents - Teacher Meetings are usually held at the end of every semester. All parents were invited for the meeting through intimation letters, SMS etc. We aim to make it a very interactive session with a very formal approach, very active and vibrant. The meeting shall be presided over by the Director-DSJBS and the Principal and the HODs of respective Faculty. We would like to make it a very effective and successful forum for the maintenance of the discipline as well as sustenance of academic excellence in the Campus

Parent-teachers meet for all the DSJBS students was conducted on 12th April, 2014 & 13th September 2014 from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm. The director addressed the parents and then parents met the respective class-teachers in the classrooms. The class-teachers showed the student’s attendance status, last semester’s academic performance, internal test result. The parents and student also signed on an undertaking that he/she should maintain minimum 75% attendance to write the BU  examination.
